A wonderful artwork by Gian Marco Montesano, realized in 2013; a reworking of a masterpiece dating back to the 17th century, attributed to Bartolomeo Gennari, a close collaborator of Francesco Barbieri, known as il Guercino, already an artistic heritage of the Republic of San Marino.
Montesano, revisiting the work in his own way, places in the hands of the Saint a small painting of Monte Titano where the oldest part of San Marino can be seen, while the background is translated into an abstract and looming sky, which distances the representation from any reference realistic and temporal and suspends it in an indefinite time and space.
Born in Turin in 1949, Montesano lives and works between Paris, Trento and Bologna.
He is an artist, writer and theater director.
From the 70s on the art scene, he was invited to the Venice Biennale in 1993.
Intellectuals and critics have written about him, from Jean Baudrillard to Toni Negri, to Achille Bonito Oliva.
