Mimmo Germanà (Catania 1944 - Busto Arsizio 1992), was a self-taught painter. Moved to Rome after classical studies, he began to paint and be successful with his works in the early 1980's, with the Transavanguardia, a style he had fully embraced.
He took part in the Venice Biennale in 1980, in the "Aperto 80" section, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva and Harald Szeemann.
His complex artistic personality, unconventional and tenacious, whose recurring themes are figures of women with characteristic oval faces and enchanting Mediterranean landscapes, will make him the undisputed protagonist of that period.
The critic Achille Bonito Oliva will immediately believe in his talent and his art.
In addition to several exhibitions in numerous private Italian galleries, in the same period, he will bring his pictorial imprint abroad; in fact his works are preserved in European and American museums.
He will die at the age of forty-eight with AIDS.
Excellent artist who won the nomination of Italian Chagall.
