Gaston Gerard (Saint-Mandé (Val de Marne) 11 March 1859 - 1914/1915).
Painter of mythological subjects, genre scenes, animated landscapes and decorative compositions.

He will exhibit at the Society of French Artists Exhibition and become a member in 1888.
In the painting proposed by us, the composition, as well as the representation, remind us very strongly Vermeer (1632, baptism - 1675; artworks: Girl with a turban or Girl with a pearl earring, around 1665 and many other famous artworks).
In fact, as in the paintings of his predecessor, Gerard also does not represent too much activity in what he depicts, precisely a woman in a silent daily act, a mother who suckles her child with love, a gesture of everyday life, where however silence and humanity are palpable.
In 2013 a painting by this excellent artist was sold by the Dorotheum auction house in Vienna for 4341 dollars.
