Domenico Paladino, also known as "Mimmo" (Paduli, 18 December 1948), is among the international artists who stand out as exponents of the Transavanguardia, an artistic movement theorized and promoted by Achille Bonito Oliva, in 1980.
The Transavanguardia will bring about a return to painting, following the various conceptual currents that had formed in the 1970's.
Paladino's painting will also be influenced by the art and culture of antiquity, also recalled through the recovery of techniques such as mosaic and encaustic.
In 2006 Paladino painted Fotogrammi, dipinti armati; a set made up of thirty-four small paintings conceived as frames of a film.
The subjects are in three different dimensions and represent landscapes, portraits and still lifes, arranged according to an order that the artist does not consider binding.
These works have a thin iron frame, to which artifacts are welded (always in iron).
In the case of Fotogrammi, dipinti armati the metal motifs welded to the frame lead the work towards a spiritual dimension that explicitly evokes Malevich, Klee and Kandinskij.
The metal bands play the same role that decoration plays in medieval painting, they are a supplement to the narration, which here is not the story of the sacred but the expression of the sacred. They are artifice.
They are really small masterpieces of art; creations that represent in every detail the imagination, talent and genius of the artist.
