Born in Medellin on April 19, Fernando Botero Angulo approaches to the world of art when he was a teenager, creating illustrations for the supplements of El Colombiano, an important journalistic headline in his hometown; one of the places where today you can admire several of his important sculptures of unquestionable beauty.
On the occasion of his eightieth birthday he will donate several paintings to the Antioquia Museum of Medellin.
His entire life will break free between Colombia, Mexico, the United States and Europe; with three marriages and the tragic loss of his son of only four years in a car accident (where Botero lost the last phalanx of the little finger of his right hand).
In the eighties he decides to buy a house in Pietrasanta (province of Lucca) where he will make important and impressive bronze statues.
In 2007 seven of his priceless masterpieces will be stolen; so far only three of these works have been recovered and the culprits arrested.
